Virtual Marine Technology's Navigation Simulator Recognized by DNV
St. John's, Newfoundland - October 20, 2009 - Virtual Marine Technology (VMT) is proud to announce that its Small Craft Navigation Simulator, NetSim, has achieved interim approval as a Class S Simulator by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). Targeting small craft operators, NetSim provides a vehicle to broaden navigational skills, strengthen situational awareness and illustrate, on a real-time basis, the relationship between radar, GPS and chartplotting equipment.
Expanding Training Capacity
NetSim was designed specifically for fleet operators and training providers who need to deliver small craft navigation training to crews dispersed over wide operational areas. "NetSim is an innovative teaching tool for navigation training," says Tyler Brand, VMT's Manager of Marine Training. "The ability to deploy training lessons over the internet will go a long way in expanding training capacity here in Canada.
First of its Kind
The focus of VMT's accreditation process has been to optimize NetSim for delivery of Transport Canada's SEN Limited (SEN-L) training standard. The success of the process means that NetSim is the first simulator to meet Canadian Standards for Class S Approval. "Virtual Marine Technology has created a well designed and powerful tool to deliver navigation training," stated Capt. Aksel D. Nordholm, Manager - Simulator Certification, DNV SeaSkillTM."The new Class S Interim Approval reflects DNV's support of NetSim as a simulation tool for SEN-L training.
Important First Step
"NetSim's Interim Approval represents an important achievement for VMT" said Philip McCarter, VMT's Vice President of Accreditation and Marine Affairs. "Not only does it speak to the quality of our simulation solutions, it's also a great indicator that we're well positioned for approval of our full mission lifeboat and fast response craft simulators."VMT hopes to receive similar recognition for its lifeboat and fast response craft simulators, SurvivalQuest and MissionQuest, in 2010.
