VMT Recognized by the Genesis Centre

October 07, 2009

St. John’s, Newfoundland - October 7, 2009 – Virtual Marine Technology Inc. (VMT) is proud to announce its official graduation from the Genesis Centre, Memorial University’s technology business incubator. VMT’s impressive success to date was recognized at a ceremony on the University’s St. John’s campus, and was attended by Dr. Christopher W. Loomis, Memorial University’s president and vice-chancellor pro tempore and Shawn Skinner, the provincial minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development.

VMT moved its headquarters from the Genesis Centre in October 2007 after receiving private investment and recruiting Captain Anthony Patterson as the Company’s President and CEO. Though no longer operating out of the Genesis Centre, VMT continues to draw upon the knowledge and expertise provided by the Incubator’s staff.

“I believe that the next key milestone in our history was the day we were accepted into the Genesis Centre. The Centre provided us with business support and coaching, and connected us with a support network which we continue to use to this day,” said Captain Patterson. “The Genesis also groomed us and introduced us to people who would ultimately invest in the company and make today’s graduation possible. For their help, mentorship and guidance, I offer the Genesis Centre a sincere and heart-felt thank you.”

“Memorial University is excited to have played such an important role in the early and later development of VMT,” said Dr. Loomis. “This proves once again what our talented and resourceful people can achieve, both nationally and internationally, when coupled with the right support and resources.”

“The Provincial Government has enjoyed a close working relationship with VMT over the years,” said Minister Skinner. “It was identified during the early stages of our relationship that the growing demand in Canadian, American, and international markets for fast rescue craft simulation training was significant. Today, we celebrate its continued success and development as a key player in Newfoundland and Labrador’s expanding ocean technology community.”
