MUN's Simulation Team Co-locates with VMT

January 04, 2010

January 4, 2010 - St. John's, Newfoundland - Virtual Marine Technology (VMT) is happy to welcome Memorial University of Newfoundland's (MUN) Small Craft Simulation team to its St. John's office. VMT recently completed renovations to its St. John's facilities to accommodate MUN's 17 person team. The co-location represents a tremendous step for the partnership's small craft simulation capacity.

"We now have a team of over 35 individuals collaborating on maritime simulation applications. Working closely with the mun team will help us identify emerging advances in hydrodynamic, software, and human factors research that we'll eventually be able to transfer to our clients," said VMT's Chief Technical Officer, Randy Billard.

"We're very excited about the collaborative learning that's going to take place in the coming months and years. Cohabitating with VMT will expose our team to the commercial best practices that VMT has adopted and also gives us direct insight into the research demands of industry," said Jennifer Smith, Manager of the MUN AIF Project.

From its inception, VMT has made a conscious effort to leverage the ocean technology cluster in Newfoundland and Labrador. VMT has benefited greatly from its relationship with MUN through an exclusive licensing agreement to commercialize the University's small craft simulation research. As part of the licensing agreement, the University receives royalties from VMT's commercial sales.

Virtual Marine Technology Virtual Marine Technology Inc. specializes in small craft maritime simulation solutions. VMT develops high fidelity simulation systems that deliver safe, focused learning environments.
