Small Craft Simulation

Virtual Marine Technology (VMT) develops simulators for survival craft, fast response craft and high speed electronic navigation training. VMT is partnered with Canada's leading maritime institutions to research, model and simulate small craft motion. Complementing our simulation expertise is a team of mariners with over 70 years of Coast Guard, teaching and regulatory experience.

By investing in VMT’s small craft simulators organization are able to:

Increase training frequency and focus

Training simulators allow crews to repeatedly practice situational tasks. They also allow instructors to deliver training scenarios that cater to the specific needs of their crew.

Mitigate training and operational risk

Training simulators allow crews to practice dangerous tasks in a safe, simulated environment. As a result, crews are better prepared to handle emergency situations when put to sea.

Reduce training costs

Training simulators minimize lost training time by shifting training to a controlled environment. They also reduce operation and maintenance costs by optimizing on-water training time.

SurvivalQuest simulators are designed to enhance lifeboat training. Delivered training elements include:

  • Control familiarization and pre-launch check
  • Launch timing and sail away procedures
  • High sea state navigation and pilotage
  • Equipment fault and failure response

MissionQuest is designed to enhance fast response craft training. Delivered training elements include:

  • Basic skills training
  • Positive control
  • SAR operations and tactics
  • FRC coxswain and boatman training

NetSim is a computer deployed simulator designed to enhance high speed navigation training. Delivered training elements include:

  • Radar
  • GPS
  • Chart and plotting
  • SAR operations and tactics
